Dragonflies at Stackpole

The sun appeared on a workshop at Stackpole last week and the dragonflies at Merepool Valley put on a memorable display. I have never seen so many Emperor dragonflies on the pools with the females madly ovipositing. The males frequently clashed in flight and some tumbled in somersaults in the wind. I managed just one in flight shot but it was facing the wrong way! This is one of the largest European dragonflies averaging 78 mm in length but is our bulkiest. Nikon D800, Nikkor 300mm, f/11.
